2025 Narrative Conference – 40th Conference of the Narrative Society

The paper engaged the audience, who shared their reflections and advice. It also entered into conversation with another paper on the panel, which focused on cultivating empathy, justice and healing through storytelling.

Future Education Conference 2024 – Empowering Learners for Tomorrow

Paper “Empowering Readers through Literature” presented LIFE and the progress on its design at the conference that gathered 300 researchers, students and practitioners who study teaching and learning.

The central question behind this first Future Education Conference, intending to become an annual event, was “teaching for tomorrow” and the visions for it were discussed from such fields as psychology, literature, language teaching and game-based learning.
The event offered an opportunity for the diverse researchers to meet and learn about the currently studied topics, methods used, questions posed and answers found. This ranged from effects of mind-wandering on reading comprehension, through costs of language switching to assessing the teaching practice of second-career teachers. This brings new perspectives, ideas and inspiration, as well as contacts.
This took place in a charming Austrian city located about 70 km from the Slovenian and about 130 km from the Hungarian border and governed by a communist mayor recognized with the World Mayor Award.

Conference of the International Society for the Empirical Study of Literature, IGEL 2024

Paper “Exploring Reading for Empowerment” presented LIFE and its design to members of the International Society for Empirical Study of Literature (IGEL). The society gathers empirical reading and media reception scholars and experts in psychology, communication science, literature and media, among others.

The community is known for its co-operative spirit and the conference provides a supportive forum for feedback and discussions.
This year’s theme was “perspectivity”.

Columbia University Postdoctoral Research Symposium

This poster symposium showcases Columbia University’s specialised and diverse postdoctoral research. The poster “Studying Reading for Empowerment” presented one of just two Marie Skłodowska-Curie projects exhibited at the symposium, both in the under-represented humanities.

The symposium provided an opportunity to mix and make contacts with fellow postdoctoral researchers, including those from such relevant fields as social work and psychometrics.

Data Science Day at Columbia University

The Data Science Day is a flagship annual event of the Data Science Institute that connects innovators in industry and government to Columbia researchers who are propelling advances across every sector with data science. It includes lightning talks, a keynote from an industry leader and posters and demonstrations.
